Tooth Gems

What is a tooth gem?

Semi-permanent procedure that entails placing jewelry on your tooth/teeth. The process uses the highest quality charms & crystals made specifically for tooth placement, as well as the highest quality dental grade products and bond to ensure the longest lasting and safest procedure.

+ The Process

A crystal or charm is placed on the tooth and adhered with a dental-grade bond, similar to that of braces. The tooth is cleaned prior to application. The curing process involves a light to solidify the bond.

+ Pre-Care

  • You must be 18 Years or older at the time of your service. Please have a valid form of ID with you.
  • Your gums and the tooth/teeth that you would like jeweled must be in good health (i.e. no abcess, cavitis, plaque build up, cracks, etc.
  • The tooth must be free of any other jewelry or bond at the time of your service. If you have a tooth gem on your tooth prior, a dentist must remove it for you.

+ Aftercare

  • You can drink plain water immediately after your service, but you cannot eat for a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Soft foods for 24 hours. Only eating soft foods in these first 24 hours will ensure that the bond between the gem and the natural tooth is secure.
  • No brushing for 12 hours. Do not use an electric toothbrush for at least 48 hours after your service.
  • Do not touch or play with your new gem.
  • After these timelines, it’s critical to maintain proper dental hygiene habits. Always brush and floss your teeth as directed by your dentist, and see them for professional cleanings as directed.

+ Other FAQ

  • Does it hurt or cause any damage to my tooth? No and no! The jewel is bonded to the enamel like an orthodontic bracket without any drilling or pain. The procedure and removal can be copared to the placemet and removal oforthodontic brackets. When it is removed, the jewelry is simply popped off and the tooth will be polished to remove any remaining bonding material.
  • How long does this last? The lifespan of your gem is never guaranteed; there are many variables that affect it, particularly your dental hygiene habits. We attach the tooth gems using a high quality dental bond. The jewelry lasts anywhere from 6-24 months for the Swarovski crystals and 6-12 months for the charms.
  • Can I feel the jewelry on my tooth? The jewels are only .4mm-.9mm thick and 1.8mm-3mm in diameter. Initally, something on your tooth will feel different, but a few days after the application you will get used to the new feeling.
  • Can I have multiple charms/jewels placed on the samt tooth? Yes, as long as it's done during the same appointment. Adding new crystals or charms to the same tooth after it has been primed and cured from the inital placement may not stick.
  • Can I get tooth jewelry if I have veneers or false teeth? Unfortunately not, since the bonding agent will only stick to natural teeth.
  • Can I still have my teeth professionally cleaned? Yes. You can, and should, still have your teeth cleaned every 6 months by a dental professional. Our tooth gems will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The area underneath the gem is sealed like a filling, and will not let in any bacteria. The hygienist can easily polish on top and around the gem.
  • What if the gem falls off and I swallow it? Our crystals have no sharp edges, and are so small that they’re very easy to swallow. They will come out “the natural way.”
  • How do I remove the gem if I no longer want it? If you choose to part ways with your tooth gem before its time is up, a dental professional can easily remove it. The tooth will be buffed and polished to remove any remaining bonding material.
